The Central Denmark Region collaborates with 24 district heating companies in the REFER-CDR project, where we are working with a more environmental- and climate friendly heat production combined with a cheaper product to the plants' customers.

The district heating plant in Hvam village has, as a part of the project, chosen to couple up with the bigger neighbor village Aalestrup, which means that the consumers will experience a significant heat price fall. By merging with another village, the consumers can look forward to an annually price-reduction of DKK 10.000 in their heating bill.

But that is only one advantage out of many. The cheaper heat will have a positive affect on the settlement in Hvam and the heat is green.

The heating plant, which previously was fuelled with natural gas, now uses bark from the local sawmill via a transmission cable from Aalestrup heating plant, which additionally is supplemented with heat from a new solar heating plant. This ensures a more resilient, cheaper and greener district heating.

The European Investment Bank has financed the technical counseling and Hvam has invested DKK 12.5 mio. in the transmission cable between Hvam and Aalestrup.
